"We think management guided conservatively for the first quarter," JP Morgan analyst Ken Worthington said in a client note.

"President Trump is moving fast to fulfill his promise of making US the crypto capital of the planet. And the most pro-crypto Congress we've ever seen is now leading the charge on stablecoin and market structure legislation. Given the US's leadership here, the rest of the world is taking notice and will be under pressure to embrace crypto adoption," Coinbase co-founder and CEO Brian Armstrong said on the call.

"Given the valuation and potential near-term volatility until we get greater regulatory certainty, our rating is unchanged at Neutral; however, our December 2025 price target jumps to $344 (from $264 prior) driven by our fiscal year EPS number nearly doubling on the higher base the fourth quarter set. Interesting to us is that the volume surge seen post election have largely remained intact, suggesting that this level of velocity, activity and revenue generation levels could be sustainable."

"Digital asset researcher Coin Metrics predicts crypto exchange Coinbase will report approximately $2 billion in revenue for the fourth quarter of 2024.

If correct, this will mark an increase of 109% year-over-year and 65% quarter-over-quarter for Coinbase, Coin Metrics said in a Feb. 11 report. Coinbase’s Q4 2024 earnings report is scheduled for Feb. 13.

The report said Coinbase’s trading volumes hit roughly $430 billion in Q4 2024, the highest since 2021. The rise was “fueled by renewed market optimism post-U.S. election,” it said."

SEC ordered to revisit Coinbase petition for rulemaking

A federal appellate court on Monday ordered the Securities and Exchange Commission to revisit its decision not to write new rules for when digital assets fall under its authority.

Why it matters: The The 3rd Circuit Court of Appeals firmly rebuked the agency, calling its decision to deny a petition by Coinbase, the largest digital asset company in the U.S., "insufficiently reasoned, and thus arbitrary and capricious."

What's next: The court's three-judge panel declined to order the SEC to write a rule, as Coinbase requested, but instead ordered it to come back with "a sufficiently reasoned disposition of Coinbase's petition."
