Care Investment Trust Inc. (Care) is an externally managed real estate investment trust (REIT) formed to invest in healthcare-related real estate and mortgage debt. The Company's CIT Healthcare LLC (Manager) is a healthcare finance company that offers a range of financing solutions and related strategic advisory services to companies across the healthcare industry throughout the United States. As of December 31, 2009, Care maintained a diversified investment portfolio consisting of $56.1 million in unconsolidated joint ventures that own real estate, $101.5 million invested in wholly owned real estate and $25.3 million in three investments in mortgage loans that are held at lower of cost or market (LOCOM). Its investments in healthcare real estate include medical office buildings and assisted and independent living facilities and Alzheimer facilities.
