$PNC Correction may not be complete, downside risks.

On the weekly chart there is mixed signal from the indicators, they Momentum an Stock are showing some weakness but the RSI and MACD are still positive. Volume must be higher to maintain the rally of the lows which seems to be struggle as the market is down for 5 consecutive weeks. The pivotal point is $138 if that holds as resistance selling could intensify quickly as a possible c wave begins to complete the ABC correction.
Now from a fundamentals perspective the stock is cheap at a12.2 p/e ratio and Mr Buffett increasing NYSE:BRK.B stake by 2 million shares to a total of 6.9 million is quite a vote of confidence, if Mr Buffett is continuing to buy we don't think he will do so at a premium so may wait for another pullback.

Meanwhile the market pumps them over 4% today on news of their passing the Fed's stress test and potential dividend hike.

Granted this is a price level they've seen several times before. A dividend hike is pretty juicy though.

I'm keeping my price target for them at about $75.

I don't know who these companies you list are... I know a few things about this stock though.

1) Standard and Poor's rates them 4 out of 5 stars.

2) They've been shown to be consistently profitable

3) They have a long history of buying bank branches and turning them around (Huge purchase of RBC branches in the US will be profitable soon)

4) They have a healthy dividend and payout ratio

You can hate them as much as you like, but I'll be holding on my march to $70 and beyond.

PNC Financial net income, revenue falls(7:23 am ET)

NEW YORK (MarketWatch) -- PNC Financial Services Group Inc. (PNC: news, chart, profile) on Wednesday said its fourth-quarter profit fell to $493 million, or 85 cents a share, from $820 million, or $1.50 a share, in the year-ago period. Excluding 30 cents a share in one-time costs for foreclosure-related expenses and a non-cash charge of 24 cents a share, the Pittsburgh lender earned $1.39 a share in the latest period, compared to $1.40 a share in the year-ago period, excluding one-time items. Revenue fell to $3.5 billion from $3.9 billion. Wall Street analysts expected PNC to earn $1.44 a share on revenue of $3.52 billion, according to a survey by FactSet Research.

As for your particular brand of hatred for PNC's receipt of TARP funds, it's clear you're uninformed about the circumstances of the funds.

They were strongarmed into accepting the funds. They neither wanted nor needed them.

In fact, they didn't need them SO much that they took the funds for what they were, a low/no interest loan they could easily pay back. With the money they made a buyout purchase of RBC's branches in the Southern United States. If you're mad about that, consider the fact that they used the money that they supposedly "needed" to SAVE another bank.

I have no idea what the hate for PNC is for.

They're the bank all other banks should be modeling.

They have the conservative practices of Wells Fargo with the customer service of... well they have some of the best customer service in the banking industry (Certainly better than WFC).

Despite the poor Q4 (Which was still profitable), they managed to increase their yearly net profit by about 3.2% and their book value by a whopping 9.2%.

With shareholder equity at $61.52 per common share and strong earnings confidence from leadership, there is no reason to avoid PNC if you're into financials at all. This isn't even counting the strong performance of Blackrock(BLK)'s fundamentals.

The culprit behind the global financial crisis is excess consumption, funded by debt.

Before we condemn the banks we need to consider what was going on in 2009 re: TARP and political pressure to force banks to make liar loans available years before the crisis.

Although I do not suggest the banks should get out of jail free card I do think there were forces that put them (and the country) in a vulnerable spot outside of their control. If you want to find out why the creek is muddy...go upstream. A huge portion of the mud came from Washington DC in the 90's.

Do borrowers of money bear any responsibility ?

i wouldn't buy one share of PNC
i consider them *CONS* of the
highest caliber .. i would however
consider shorting them in due course
as events unfold in regards to their
taking taxpayer's monies (corp welfare)

.. and similar to other *financial institutions* b4 them

i expect PNC to undergo PPS whiplash in 2012 ..

and if they implode .. that works as well

Ever since the European debt crisis became the issue that the markets trade alongside, bank stocks have risen and fallen together. Correlation in the banking sector, much like the overall stock market, is at record levels, as investors paint all financial firms with the same broad brush. But, the truth is that not all banks are created the same. There are some that can rise above the challenges presented in Europe and can thrive in such an environment. And we would like to highlight just such a bank today.

PNC Financial (PNC) is a large regional bank that caters to the eastern United States. PNC is currently the 12th largest bank holding company in the U.S. by assets. As a regional bank, it has none of the European exposure that is currently plaguing many of its peers, yet it is trading as if it was exposed to Europe.

While it is true that PNC has outperformed the broader financial sector, it has underperformed the S&P 500. We see little reason for this other than the sentiment surrounding the financial industry.
