Among the companies with shares expected to actively trade in
Monday's session are Apple Inc. (AAPL), ImmunoGen Inc. (IMGN) and
Dollar Thrifty Automotive Group Inc. (DTG).
A federal court jury delivered a big win to Apple Inc. (AAPL),
finding that Samsung Electronics Co. (SSNHY, 005930.SE) infringed
six Apple patents and awarding $1.05 billion in damages in a
closely watched case over mobile devices. Shares rose 2.9% to
$682.65 premarket.
Elsewhere on the Apple/Samsung decision, analysts at Sydbank
said the victory will provide Nokia Corp. (NOK) and Microsoft Corp.
(MSFT) with some "much needed momentum in the extremely competitive
smartphone market" and give the Windows Phone a better opportunity
to establish itself as an alternative to Apple and Google Inc.'s
(GOOG) Android. Nokia shares were up 15% to $3.58 premarket;
Microsoft shares added 1.2% to $30.91.
ImmunoGen Inc. (IMGN) said updated results from a study by Roche
Holding AG (ROG.VX, RHHBY, RO.EB) focused on a breast cancer drug
that uses ImmunoGen's technology were positive. Shares jumped 17%
to $16.20 in recent premarket trading.
Hertz Global Holdings Inc. (HTZ) agreed to acquire smaller peer
Dollar Thrifty Automotive Group Inc. (DTG), a roughly $2.3 billion
deal that ends a long takeover saga and will merge two of the
largest U.S. car-rental firms. Hertz, the No. 2 domestic car-rental
company by fleet size, agreed to pay $87.50 a share in cash to buy
Dollar Thrifty, the No. 4 player in the category. Hertz shares were
up 14% premarket, while Dollar Thrifty shares jumped 7.3% to
$86.92.
Watchlist:
Cypress Semiconductor Corp. (CY) boosted its all-cash offer for
Ramtron International Corp. (RMTR) to $99 million, a move that
comes after the chip company had extended its hostile bid three
times. Cypress, which owns 4.7% of Ramtron's shares, is now
offering shareholders $2.88 a share, 20 cents more than its
previous per-share offering price.
Deltek Inc. (PROJ) agreed to be acquired by Thoma Bravo LLC for
about $950 million, a deal that comes about two months after the
software company put itself up for auction. Deltek shareholders
will receive $13 a share under the deal, a 7.1% discount to its
Friday closing price.
Jack Henry & Associates Inc. (JKHY) said its chairman,
Michael E. Henry, resigned and has been replaced by Chief Executive
John F. Prim.
United Parcel Service Inc. (UPS) expects a charge of $896
million in the third quarter as it restructures pension plans for
around 10,200 employees.
Voice-controlled patient-communications-products company Vocera
Communications Inc. (VCRA) said it will offer 4.5 million shares of
its common stock. The company, which provides services for the
health-care industry, said it is offering 1 million shares to raise
funds for general corporate purposes, while selling stockholders
are offering 3.5 million shares.
