Symmetricom®, Inc. (NASDAQ:SYMM), a worldwide leader in precise time and frequency technologies, today announced that Daniel Scharre has been promoted to executive vice president, general manager of the company’s Government Business Unit. Previously, he was vice president, marketing and business development of the same unit.

In his new position, Scharre is responsible for overseeing the growth and management of the company’s time and frequency technology products that target the government, enterprise, science, aerospace and defense industries. He reports to Symmetricom president and CEO, Dave Côté.

“Dan has an exceptional track record with his more than 20 years experience in growing technology companies, and we’re fortunate to have him as part of our Symmetricom team,” said Dave Côté, president and CEO. “Under his leadership, Symmetricom will be able to identify and execute on new market opportunities for customers who demand the most reliable and rigorous timing and frequency control products.”

Scharre has significant experience in a variety of technology companies in the communications and defense industries. Prior to joining Symmetricom last April, Scharre was CEO of Calient Networks, San Jose, Calif., from 2007 to 2009. Prior roles include serving as CEO at Larscom and also at LOEA. He was also a business unit director at Loral Western Development Labs.

Scharre holds an MBA from Santa Clara University, a Ph.D in physics from the University of California, Berkeley, and a Bachelor of Science degree in physics from the California Institute of Technology.
