The following table lists planned and unplanned production
outages at U.S. refineries as reported by Dow Jones Newswires. The
information is compiled from both official and unofficial refining
sources and doesn't purport to be a comprehensive list.
Valero Energy Corp. (VLO) on June 3 said some units at its Jean
Gaulin refinery in Quebec, Canada, have begun the restart process
following nine weeks of plant-wide turnaround maintenance. It will
be another several days before the refinery is back at planned
rates.
CHS Inc.'s (CHSCP) oil refinery in Laurel, Montana, has been
undergoing major turnaround maintenance since earlier this spring,
a report on Sunday in the local Billings Gazette newspaper said.
The scope of the turnaround wasn't detailed but information
submitted to the Department of Environmental Quality said the
project involves major renovations to several processing units and
that the project will enable the refinery to refine a higher
percentage of diesel fuel and a lower percentage of gasoline, the
Gazette story said.
Exxon Mobil Corp. (XOM) on Thursday said its Torrance, Calif.,
refinery was working to normalize operations following a disruption
in power supplied to the refinery by an external provider. The
incident resulted in emissions and unplanned flaring. The status of
operations at the plant wasn't clear since the company in early-May
said the refinery would conduct "several weeks" of planned
maintenance at several process units.
Citgo Petroleum Corp. on Wednesday said a compressor at its
refinery in Lemont, Ill., had recently returned to service after
completion of planned repairs. The work, underway since May 20,
wasn't expected to affect production levels, the company said at
that time.
Phillips 66 (PSX) on Wednesday said a furnace problem at its
Sweeny Refinery in Old Ocean, Texas, caused Unit 35, previously
identified as an Aromatics Unit, to shut down in its report to
Texas state environmental regulators. The emissions event lasted
just under 12 hours, the filing to the Texas Commission on
Environmental Quality said.
Phillips 66 (PSX) said a process leak on a hydrocracker unit at
its Wood River Refinery in Roxana, Illinois, on May 28, resulted in
an 11.5 hour release of hydrogen sulfide and flaring, a filing to
regulators said. The current status of operations at the unit
wasn't specified.
Tesoro Corp. (TSO) reported the May 25 startup of an unspecified
major processing unit at its Golden Eagle Refinery in Martinez,
Calif., to state environmental regulators. The filing was made
available on May 28. It wasn't clear if the restart was associated
with partial, brief power outage on May 16; four major process
units affected by it were in restart on May 17, the company
said.
