AFT Announces Successful Completion of New Fuel Pump

Alternative Fuel Technology, LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of
Alternative Fuel Technologies, Inc. (PINKSHEETS: AFTC), announced
today that they have designed and successfully demonstrated a
revolutionary new DME fuel feed pump that eliminates cavitation,
lowers pump noise and improves efficiency.
DME, a new ultra-clean alternative fuel for diesel engines, is a
liquefied gas like propane and must be slightly pressurized to keep
it liquid. This is accomplished by storing DME in sealed containers
(propane tanks). When fuel is pumped out of the tank it has a
tendency to cavitate in the feed pump's inlet, causing noise and a
loss of efficiency. Cavitation is a sudden formation and collapse
of bubbles in liquids by means of mechanical forces, such as those
resulting from pump vanes or pistons.
In 2007, AFTC developed a very reliable and compact feed pump
for DME and has many running in engine laboratories and
experimental vehicles in Asia, Europe and the USA. These pumps,
however, produce relatively high noise levels that can be heard
within the cabin of a vehicle. AFTC's new pump eliminates this
problem and takes DME fueled vehicles one step closer to volume
production.
ABOUT DME:
DME is a new alternative fuel for diesel engines that totally
eliminates toxic smoke (particulate) emissions and drastically
lowers NOx emissions without the benefit of expensive exhaust
aftertreatment devices like particulate filters and urea
regenerated NOx catalysts. The estimated cost for these devices
exceeds $10,000 for medium-duty trucks.
DME can be made from abundant biomass that does not compete with
the food chain at a price that is expected to be fully competitive
with petroleum based diesel fuel. When made from biomass, DME
reduces CO2 (greenhouse gas) emissions by over 90%. President Obama
has pledged that the USA will "implement a domestic cap-and-trade
program to reduce greenhouse gas emissions 80 percent by 2050" with
"all pollution credits to be auctioned, and proceeds will go to
investments in a clean energy future, habitat protections, and
rebates and other transition relief for families. DME promises to
play a major part in the reduction of greenhouse gases and their
effects on global climate change.
