Thomson Reuters Expanding
Cryptocurrency Data
They are increasing the detail of
their sentiment data toolkit to cover 100 different coins. The
program was launched back in March in partnership
with MarketPsych Data LLC to provide the
Bitcoin data feed. The Thomson Reuters MarketPsych Indices
Cryptocurrency Sentiment (TRMI 3.1) package monitors more than
2,000 global news and 800 social media sites in real-time. It
gauges things like "excitement" or "hope" to provide insight on
investment and reveal market patterns using natural language
processing combined with machine learning. "Adding a
cryptocurrency-focused sentiment feed to our suite of cross-asset
solutions has...enabled us to provide our customers with invaluable
insights that may help them make strategic investment decisions,"
said Pradeep Menon, Thomson Reuters' global head of investing and
advisory.
Acinq Now Live with
Lightning Network Payment Processing
The Lightning Network
developers Acinq have been working on a second layer
off-chain settlement solutions for Bitcoin. They have just
introduced Strike, their first payment processing Application
Program Interface (API) fore easy off-chain-on-chain settlement
dubbed. Unlike other cryptocurrency payment processing options
which payout directly into a fiat conversion, Strike collects LN
payments on behalf of the client, and settles the collected amount
to a Bitcoin wallet. However, this does create a “middle-man” where
Acinq is collecting a set amount of Bitcoins of the clients
choosing before final on-chain settlement.
CFTC Subpoenas Exchanges
Involved in Futures
The U.S. Commodity and Futures
Trading Commission (CFTC) has subpoenaed Bitstamp, Coinbase, itBit
and Kraken to analyze the trading data in another manipulation
probe. The subpoenaed exchanges provide data as a base for the
bitcoin futures prices at CME. This is a complicated matter because
the CFTC has claimed oversight and enforcement authority over
cryptocurrency-based financial derivatives like bitcoin futures,
but seems to possess only enforcement authority over the
cryptocurrency spot markets. an agreement between two parties to
buy one currency against selling another currency at an agreed
price for settlement on the spot date.
