President and CEO, John Voris, announced to the ePocrates investors
several months ago a desire to focus on personal interests. Voris
will remain a board member and chairman and will work on strategic
initiatives for the company. "This new role strikes a perfect
balance, enabling me to maintain strategic involvement with
ePocrates while freeing up more time personally. This also allows a
smooth transition for the company, and brings in an individual with
new strengths, talent, and experience needed by ePocrates to build
on the foundation and brand we have established in healthcare,"
said Voris. Loevner joins ePocrates well respected from Silicon
Valley to Wall Street, having been CEO at three successful Internet
companies, most recently Pinnacor, Inc. (NASDAQ:PCOR) formerly
Screaming Media, a financial services technology company he is
credited with turning around and subsequently sold earlier this
year to CBS MarketWatch. Prior to Pinnacor, Loevner founded
PublishOne Inc., a publishing service that allowed business
information and publishing companies to securely sell and
distribute information online. In early 2001, Loevner sold
PublishOne to InterTrust Technologies, a digital rights management
company. Previously, he was CEO of Internet Shopping Network where
he conceived and developed First Auction, the first real-time
auction site on the Internet. Prior to these leadership
experiences, Loevner held senior level positions in marketing and
sales at Apple, Silicon Graphics and VisiCorp, which together
formed the foundation for his later business success. Loevner has a
BSE degree in Computer Science from Tufts University and an MBA
from the Harvard Business School. "ePocrates has established itself
as the dominant brand in its category and healthcare professionals
uniformly praise their products. In addition, the company is
playing a significant role in helping to improve the quality of
healthcare in this country," said Loevner. "ePocrates is poised to
become a truly great company. I look forward to being a part of
making that happen." With more than 350,000 physicians and health
care professionals currently subscribing to its clinical and
formulary reference applications, including 20 percent of
practicing U.S. physicians, ePocrates has clearly established a
leadership position in the market. Practicing physicians who use
handhelds is expected to top 50% by year-end 2004 and reach over
75% by year-end 2007 (Gartner Research, "Mobile Healthcare:
Applications, Vendors and Adoption, November 2002). "We're quite
pleased to bring Kirk on board as CEO. He brings a track record of
innovation and high-growth at his previous companies, and his
tenure in technology is an excellent fit with the deep health care
industry expertise of the ePocrates management team," said Mark
Wan, board member and founding partner, Three Arch Partners. About
