Symmetricom®, Inc. (NASDAQ:SYMM), a worldwide leader in
precision time and frequency technologies, today announced that
André Marais, head of enterprise business development, is
presenting, “Measuring at Light Speed – Synchrophaser Deployment”
at UTC EXPO on Tuesday, May 10, 2011 in Long Beach, Calif.
Symmetricom is also exhibiting in booth #449. Co-located with UTC
Telecom 2011, UTC EXPO is the largest display of critical
infrastructure communications technologies and services and the
ultimate utility telecom technology marketplace. Running May 10-12,
2011, the event is attended by telecom buyers at energy and water
organizations involved in massive deployments and upgrades.
WHO:
André Marais, Enterprise Business Development at Symmetricom
WHAT:
Presenting, “Measuring at Light Speed – Synchrophaser Deployment”
at UTC EXPO
WHEN:
Tuesday, May 10, 2011, 1:30 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. PDT
WHERE:
Long Beach Convention Center, Long Beach, CA, Room 103 B
The presentation will examine the role of time in traditional
utility operations, how time has evolved from an optional to a
mandatory requirement, and how the grid wide timing needs can be
reliably met using Next Generation Network communication systems
from Symmetricom. The Smart Grid has new applications that enhance
its ability to operate the infrastructure closer to its thermal
limits while improving the grid's security. Many of these new
applications are time-dependent with wide area measurement and
protection systems based on synchrophasors. The substation
architecture is also evolving to an Ethernet foundation that is
equally time-dependent. Timing has traditionally supported energy
accounting and post event forensics, but has not materially
affected, until now, the delivery of power to customers.
André Marais currently leads the financial and energy market
business development efforts for Symmetricom. Prior to joining
Symmetricom, he was a design engineer at Eskom, power utility
provider in South Africa. In that role, he was responsible for the
systems engineering of next generation distribution automation and
integrated substation control systems. André was a contributing
member to the International Council on Large Electric Systems
(Cigré) and IEC working groups for substation automation and
communication. He often consults and speaks at events and seminars.
He holds a Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering from the
University of the Witwatersrand in South Africa and a diploma in
technology leadership.
Symmetricom will be exhibiting the SSU 2000 Synchronization
Supply Unit, TimeProvider® 5000 IEEE 1588 Grandmaster Clock,
SyncServer® S300 GPS Network Time Server, among other timing and
synchronization solutions.
