Abbott Laboratories on Thursday said it plans to invest $45
million a year as it works to help identify, treat and prevent
malnutrition, which affects about a third of the world's
population.
The Abbott Park, Ill., maker of healthcare products said it has
launched the Abbott Center for Malnutrition Solutions, a
collaboration with external nutrition experts and partners aimed at
reducing malnutrition around the world.
Abbott, which produces Similac baby formulas and Ensure
nutrition products for adults, said the center will focus on the
most vulnerable populations, including mothers, infants and young
children; aging adults; and people without access to good
nutrition.
Abbott said sustainable development goals set by the United
Nations will serve as the framework for the center's goals and
priorities.
