Royal Dutch Shell PLC said Thursday that it has signed a deal
with renewable energy company Simply Blue Group to develop a
floating wind farm off the coast of Ireland.
The oil-and-gas company will take a 51% stake in Simply Blue's
Western Star venture, which will seek to build up to 1.35 gigawatts
of power generation capacity, including 300-450 megawatts in the
first phase.
"Floating wind technology can be installed in deeper waters than
fixed wind turbines allowing this project to be placed 35km-60km
offshore, keeping visual impact to a minimum," Shell said.
