Deutsche Post AG said Thursday that it has expanded its
pharmaceutical and medical storage facility in Leipzig to meet the
rising demand amid the coronavirus pandemic.
The German freight-and-logistics group said its air and ocean
freight subsidiary, DHL Global Forwarding GmbH, has increased the
capacity of its life sciences and health-care facility by around
2,500 square meters.
The expanded facility, which has more than doubled in size, will
allow DHL to store and handle pharmaceutical and medical products
before or after they are transported via the nearby Leipzig
Airport, the company said.
"Since the start of the pandemic, we have observed a strong
increase in demand for pharmaceutical products and goods," said
Tobias Schmidt, who is chief executive of DHL Global Forwarding in
Germany.
"Given the good news regarding the development of Covid-19
vaccinations, this demand is likely to increase even further in the
coming months," he added.
