dedicate a viewing block of six films to remember Glenn Ford, who
died Wednesday, Aug. 30, at age 90. His career spanned more than 50
years and almost 100 movies, from Westerns and romance to comedies
and urban dramas. Ford is perhaps best known for his starring roles
in Gilda (1946), with Rita Hayworth; Blackboard Jungle (1955), with
Sidney Poitier; The Courtship of Eddie's Father (1963), with
Shirley Jones; A Stolen Life (1946), with Bette Davis; The Big Heat
(1953), with Lee Marvin; The Rounders (1965), with Henry Fonda; and
Midway (1976), with Charlton Heston, Henry Fonda and James Coburn.
His performance in Frank Kapra's Pocketful of Miracles earned him a
