State Auto Names Cynthia A. Powell Chief Risk Officer

The State Auto Insurance Companies announced today that Cynthia
A. Powell has been named chief risk officer. Powell joined State
Auto in 1990 after serving three years as a certified public
accountant with a predecessor to KPMG LLP. She was named vice
president and comptroller in 2000, and currently serves as State
Auto’s treasurer and chief accounting officer.
“Cindy is exceptionally well qualified for this important new
role,” said State Auto President, Chairman and CEO Bob Restrepo.
“She has the financial and technical skills, institutional
knowledge and credibility and the passion to do what’s right for
State Auto. Her leadership, energy and exceptional critical
thinking and communication abilities will help us achieve a greater
level of operating performance.”
As chief risk officer, Powell reports to Restrepo and is
responsible for promoting corporate innovation, implementing
enterprise risk management strategies and aligning all financial,
technology and human resource capabilities to achieve strategic
goals.
Powell holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from John Carroll
University and is a member of the Ohio Society of Certified Public
Accountants and the American Institute of Certified Public
Accountants. She serves on the boards of The Jefferson Center for
Learning and the Arts and OHA Insurance Solutions Inc., and is a
past board member of the Central Ohio Radio Reading Service (now
VOICEcorps).
