Tenneco Automotive Recognized for Emission Control Technologies
Company Receives Two 2004 PACE(TM) Honorable Mention Awards LAKE
FOREST, Ill., Oct. 27 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Tenneco Automotive
announced today that the company has received Honorable Mention
Automotive News PACE Awards for its Exhaust Isolators and Tunable
Muffler Shell technologies. The 2004 Automotive News PACE Awards
are jointly presented by Automotive News, Cap Gemini Ernst &
Young and the Transportation Research Center Inc. The annual awards
recognize creativity, excellence and innovation in the automotive
supply industry. "We are pleased that our technology focus is
rewarded with recognition for our new Exhaust Isolators and Tunable
Muffler Shell," said Mark P. Frissora, chairman and CEO, Tenneco
Automotive. "These innovative technologies represent our commitment
to developing products and technologies that help differentiate
vehicles and satisfy customer needs -- a key element in our growth
strategy." Exhaust Isolators offer a cost effective solution for
achieving advanced performance. Unlike conventional isolators,
these innovative products can be tuned both vertically and
horizontally. Their unique design and use of elastomer materials
also accommodates the lengthening of the exhaust system that occurs
as temperatures increase. Moreover, these isolators integrate
various components, including brackets and sleeves, into a single
part, which permits easier assembly -- an important consideration
in high-volume production. The Tunable Muffler Shell is designed to
deliver the cost advantages and durability of single-wall muffler
construction while providing the acoustical benefits of double-wall
construction. The single-shell design avoids separation; a problem
that can occur with double wall construction, and which results in
unwanted noise and accelerated corrosion. The Tunable Muffler Shell
is the first product to feature stiffening ridges in a wrapped
construction. The stamped ridge pattern takes place prior to
wrapping and eliminates the noise, vibration and harshness issues
associated with single- shell muffler designs. In addition, by
varying the pattern of embossed ridges, engineers can move resonant
frequencies to non-critical zones. The Exhaust Isolators were
developed at the company's Milan, Ohio Engineering Center in
collaboration with its Grass Lake, Michigan Emission Control
Engineering Center. Production takes place at manufacturing plants
in Milan and Napoleon, Ohio. The Tunable Muffler Shell was
developed at the company's North American Emission Control
Engineering Center in Grass Lake, Michigan and is manufactured at
the Marshall, Michigan plant. Tenneco Automotive is a $3.5 billion
manufacturing company with headquarters in Lake Forest, Illinois
and 19,600 employees worldwide. Tenneco Automotive is one of the
world's largest producers and marketers of ride control and exhaust
systems and products, which are sold under the Monroe(R) and
Walker(R) global brand names. Among its products are Sensa-Trac(R)
and Reflex(TM) shocks and struts, Rancho shock absorbers, Walker(R)
Quiet-Flow(TM) mufflers and DynoMax(TM) performance exhaust
products and Monroe(R) Clevite(TM) vibration control components.
