IDG's Computerworld SAN JOSE, Calif., Jan. 12
/PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Calpine today announced that Dennis
Fishback, senior vice president and chief information officer has
been recognized by IDG's Computerworld as one of the business
world's Premier 100 IT Leaders. The award honors executives who
show exemplary technology leadership in resolving pressing business
problems. Dennis was named and profiled in the January 5 issue of
Computerworld and will be honored again at Computerworld's Premier
100 IT Leaders Conference, March 7-9, 2004, at the JW Marriott
Desert Springs Resort, Palm Desert, Calif. Fishback was selected
from nearly 600 nominees, who were measured against Computerworld's
IT Leadership Index, a set of characteristics that describes
executives who guide the effective use of IT in their
organizations, and evaluated by the editors and by an external
panel of past Premier 100 honorees. Other honorees include leading
IT executives from corporations such as J.P. Morgan Chase, Marriott
International, American Express, Lockheed Martin, MetLife and the
U.S. Air Force. "Dennis has been a great addition to the Calpine
team. His solid technology vision and business acumen have
propelled Calpine into its 20th year of business as a recognized
leader in the power industry," said Ann Curtis, Calpine executive
vice president and vice-chairman. "Our Premier 100 list honors
those who've had a positive impact on their IT groups and their
companies during some of the toughest times in years," said
Maryfran Johnson, editor in chief of Computerworld. "They lead
people and projects to success. They're adept communicators who are
'bilingual' in tech-speak and business talk. But most
significantly, they're still willing to take risks in these highly
risk-averse times." Computerworld is a leading information
technology industry publication with a worldwide audience of almost
3 million readers. Fishback joined Calpine in 2001 and oversees the
development and integration of Calpine's information technology
applications and operations to ensure Calpine remains at the
forefront of technological advancement. Fishback has almost three
decades of experience in the power industry, most recently serving
as the CIO at the California Independent System Operator where he
was responsible for all information technology activities for the
state's power grid. He also enjoyed a 20-year tenure with Virginia
Power in fuels and information technology. "This honor is a
reflection of the hard work and dedication of the Information
Services (IS) leadership team and staff at Calpine. In 2001, as
Calpine's first CIO, I led an assessment of the company's
information technology and developed a roadmap for the future.
Everyone in IS has contributed to successfully implementing that
plan. I look forward to working with the group to continue our
success and achieve our vision -- helping Calpine become the energy
industry's most innovative user of information and information
technology for competitive advantage," Fishback said. About Calpine
