                        Appointment of Finance Director

Heywood Williams Group PLC is pleased to announce the appointment of Laurence
Campbell as finance director.  Mr Campbell will join the board on 15 November
1999, succeeding Terry Martin, who will retire as a director on 30 November
1999.

Mr Campbell joins Heywood Williams following three years as finance director
of Kalon Group PLC, which was acquired earlier this year by TOTALFINA.  In
addition to his finance, IT and treasury roles, he was closely involved with
Kalon's acquisition programme in France and Poland.  Prior to joining Kalon,
Mr Campbell was finance director of HMV Group Limited - during a period of
rapid expansion in various overseas markets, with a particular emphasis on the
USA and Japan.

Michael Broadhead, chief executive of Heywood Williams, said:

Kalon and HMV, and in particular his experience in the United States, will be
invaluable to the group.
