Escondido Humane Society Announces News-Wildfire Update ESCONDIDO,
Calif., Oct. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Temporary housing for shelter
animals has been established at Washington and Ash, according to
Phil Morgan, executive director of the Escondido Humane Society.
Hundreds of animals housed at the Escondido Humane Society, located
at East Valley Parkway and Lake Wolford Road, were evacuated by a
caravan of shelter staff and volunteers on Sunday afternoon when
fire threatened the surrounding property. Injured animals should be
taken to your nearest veterinary hospital or urgent care facility.
Humane society services continue 24 hours per day at the temporary
facility. If you have been displaced from your home, your pets can
be housed at the temporary site. Anyone looking for a missing pet
are asked to come to the Washington and Ash location. Six animal
control officers are providing animal services to Escondido, Valley
Center and surrounding areas. To call an animal control officer
please contact the Escondido Police Dispatch at 760-839-4990, and
they will connect you with animal control services. Thirty humane
society staff have worked round the clock to provide care and
comfort for sheltered animals, including 50 dogs, 14 of those
injured (some with broken legs) that were rescued during the fire
and are currently being cared for at Acacia Animal Hospital. Thirty
cats housed at the humane society are being temporarily cared for
at Nordahl Pet Clinic. According to Morgan, "We are working closely
with the City of Escondido management, city services and the fire
department and police department, and there has been tremendous
cooperation between San Diego County animal services. North County
Humane Society has provide us with a mobile adoption trailer,
dozens of merchants and animal care organizations are providing
outreach services which we coordinate during this time of
emergency." Clean blankets and towels and bowls are needed at the
temporary location. Morgan says, "We do not have the advantage of
washing machines, so we need an endless supply of clean bedding to
make it as comfortable as possible for the animals. We expect to be
temporarily located here for at least the next 24-36 hours." "The
new Escondido Humane Society building which opened less than two
months ago is safe," says Morgan. "It was designed to withstand
fire." For more information, please visit our website:
