the dedication, SAE will announce the availability of an inaugural
series of four SAE Automotive Engineering Seminars to be held 30
August through 3 September. The four seminars in the inaugural
series include: Gear System Design and Analysis; Technical Survey
of Modern Vehicle Transmission Systems; Design for Manufacture and
Assembly (DFM/DFA); and Automotive Engineering Project Management.
According to Duane Tiede, SAE 2004 President, SAE and its China
partners are developing plans to increase the number of training
programs available, as well as the number of training locations in
China. "SAE training will bring a new dimension of contemporary,
practitioner education programs intended to supplement and build
upon the excellent training available through China's
universities." Participating in the June 15 dedication and
representing the major partners in the Global Knowledge Center are:
Mr. Jinya Chen, Chairman, Delphi Automotive Systems (China) Holding
Co., Ltd.; Professor Ouyang Minggao, Automotive Engineering
Department Head, Tsinghua University; and Mr. Duane Tiede, 2004
President, SAE International. Mr. Zhang Xiaoyu, President, SAE
China has been invited to provide concluding remarks for the
dedication. Remarking on SAE initiatives in China, Tiede stated,
"One of the Society's primary goals is to provide capable
practitioners to the mobility industries in order to prepare for
future advancement. Delphi is an ideal partner for us to ensure the
DTI-SAE Global Knowledge Center will be a big step in moving China
with some strong momentum into the realm of a worldwide automotive
force. The Chinese industry and the Chinese quality of life in the
future depend on having technically prepared Chinese engineers and
executives ready to make their industry thrive for the long term."
SAE Manager of Strategic Programs Gary Schkade says the transition
process is ongoing. "As a worldwide market leader in engineering
knowledge dissemination and technical training, we believe SAE is
highly qualified to partner with Delphi and Tsinghua University on
these forward-looking strategic programs. It is our plan to
transition these training programs from English to Chinese language
in short order, thereby allowing their impact to reach even more
engineers and technical professionals in China. Delphi Tsinghua
Institute (DTI) is a partnership between Delphi Corporation and
Tsinghua University established in 1996 that offers approximately
70 courses in areas including Lean Manufacturing, Automotive
Engineering and Leadership Management. SAE International is a
non-profit engineering and scientific organization dedicated to the
advancement of mobility technology to better serve humanity. Nearly
84,000 engineers and scientists who are SAE members develop
technical information on all forms of self-propelled vehicles,
including automobiles, aircraft, aerospace craft, trucks, buses,
marine, rail and transit machinery. This information is
disseminated through SAE meetings, books, electronic products and
databases, technical papers, standards, reports, and professional
development programs.
