GAITHERSBURG, Md., Sept. 15 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- BioVeris Corporation (NASDAQ:BIOV) announced today that it will provide assistance to aid the recovery efforts in the Gulf Coast following Hurricane Katrina, including the donation of $1 million of instrumentation and assays to be used for environmental, water and food testing. The Honorable Asa Hutchinson, former Under Secretary for Border and Transportation Security in the Department of Homeland Security, and the Honorable Tommy Thompson, former Secretary of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, have agreed to assist BioVeris in the coordination of product placement. As a result of the flooding that has occurred in the Gulf Coast, many health facilities and laboratories across the region suffered significant damage. In response to this situation, BioVeris will contribute several of its proprietary diagnostic instruments and test kits to aid in the detection of biological agents and toxins in environmental, water and food samples. These agents include E. coli 0157, cryptosporidium, botulinum toxins and others. BioVeris also plans to provide trained experts to lend support in the use of the products by the organizations engaged in the recovery efforts.
