Johnson Controls has been awarded a $33 million U.S. Department
of Energy grant to expand production of electric heat pumps.
The Cork, Ireland-based building heating systems manufacturer
said Monday that it will scale production at facilities in San
Antonio, Texas, Wichita, Kan. and Waynesboro, Pa.
The increased production will create about 1,000 new jobs and
will triple production, the company said.
Johnson Controls said the grant was part of DOE's authorization
to use the Defense Production Act to increase production of certain
clean energy technologies.
