CHARLOTTE, N.C., March 3, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Piedmont
Natural Gas (NYSE: PNY) today announced that it delivered record
volumes of natural gas to its more than one million customers
during the month of February when extreme cold temperatures
blanketed much of the Company's three-state service area. In
February, the winter weather throughout the Company's service area
was the coldest in 37 years and Piedmont delivered 52,932,643 dekatherms. For
Piedmont, it was the highest
monthly volume sendout for a February in its 65-year history, and a
22 percent increase over the previous February sendout record of
43,521,332 dekatherms set in 2013. The Company also set a
new, single-day volume sendout record on February 19th. On that day, when
temperatures in the Company's Tennessee service area averaged 14 degrees and
only 15 degrees in its North
Carolina and South Carolina
service areas, Piedmont Natural Gas delivered 2,603,269 dekatherms
to its customers during a 24-hour period. The new single-day
record volume sendout eclipsed the old record of 2,546,205
dekatherms set only last month on January 8,
2015.
Thomas E. Skains, Piedmont's Chairman, President, and CEO,
commented on the record sendouts, "The extreme cold temperatures
that prevailed throughout our three-state service area for much of
February, combined with customer growth and increased demand for
natural gas in our power generation markets, led to record demand
for natural gas on our pipeline distribution system. Our employees
and our system assets performed extremely well, as they have this
entire colder than normal winter period. We believe our
ability to provide safe and reliable natural gas service under
these operating conditions is further testament to the value of our
ongoing investments in our pipeline delivery system through our
system expansion and pipeline integrity management programs."
