Visual Studio 2005, Enabling Increased Developer Productivity
DUBLIN, Calif., Nov. 7 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Sybase, Inc.
(NYSE:SY), a leading provider of enterprise infrastructure and
mobile software, today announced its continued and expanded
commitment and support for the Microsoft .NET environment. Sybase,
a premier partner in the Microsoft Visual Studio Industry Partner
(VSIP) program, offers development and modeling products that
either support or are integrated into the .NET environment,
including DataWindow(R) .NET 2.0, PocketBuilder(TM),
PowerBuilder(R), PowerDesigner(R) and SQL Anywhere(R). In addition,
Sybase is expanding its support for other .NET Framework-based
technologies, including Sybase Adaptive Server(R) Enterprise (ASE)
15.0 enterprise-class database, Afaria(R) management and security
for mobile platforms and RFID Anywhere(TM) middleware platform.
Sybase(R) customers benefit from being able to utilize the services
available in the Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 resulting in
increased developer productivity and easier deployment of
data-driven applications. In addition, Visual Studio 2005 customers
can easily leverage the power of patented Sybase technology through
the DataWindow .NET product. Visual Studio 2005 and the .NET
Framework 2.0 introduce features and technologies to support
application developers from modeling, to development, and through
deployment. These advances further both Sybase's and Microsoft's
commitment to deliver a complete set of development tools to
satisfy every kind of developer. "Sybase's continued and expanded
support for the .NET Framework will help our customers by making it
easier for them to access and leverage the services and classes in
the framework," said Kathleen Schaub, vice president, Information
Technology Solutions Group, Sybase, Inc. "This relationship also
enables Microsoft to expand its customer base by encouraging more
Sybase developers to adopt its tools and develop for the .NET
environment." "Microsoft is pleased to have Sybase as a premier
member of the VSIP program," said Nick Abbott, group manager in the
.NET Developer Product Marketing Group at Microsoft Corp. "The
integration of its development and modeling products into the .NET
environment will allow our mutual customers to benefit from this
extensive toolkit." Sybase DataWindow .NET 2.0, a component that
boosts the performance of .NET Framework-based development
environments, will support the .NET Framework 2.0 with support for
Microsoft Visual Studio 2005, ASP.NET 2.0, and ADO.NET 2.0.
DataWindow .NET 2.0 beta was announced earlier this year and is
currently scheduled for general availability by Q1 2006. Sybase
PocketBuilder, one of the only true rapid application development
(RAD) tools for building mobile and wireless applications running
on Microsoft Windows Mobile-based Pocket PC 2002 and Windows Mobile
2003 Second Edition software for Pocket PCs, will make it even
easier for developers to create mobile applications based on
Windows CE .NET by abstracting .NET Framework- based technologies
and APIs and encapsulating them into native objects. Sybase
PowerBuilder 11, an industry-leading 4GL RAD tool, will allow
developers to deploy PowerBuilder applications as Web Forms,
Windows Forms or Smart Clients. PowerBuilder 11 is scheduled to be
available in a customer technology preview edition in December
2005, with a full product release scheduled for Q3 2006. Sybase
PowerDesigner, an enterprise modeling and design solution, will
provide support for Visual Basic 2005 and Visual C# 2005. Today,
PowerDesigner's UML modeling fully supports forward and reverse
engineering of Visual Basic .NET 2003 and Visual C# .NET 2003.
PowerDesigner allows application developers to capture
requirements, link them to a .NET Framework object-oriented design,
together with robust process and data modeling, with full support
for Microsoft SQL Server 2000 and SQL Server 2005, and easily
document the entire design of their .NET Framework-based
applications for complete impact analysis. SQL Anywhere's strong
tradition of the .NET Framework support in its data management and
data synchronization technologies is further enhanced with its
newly announced support for ADO.NET 2.0 and integration with Visual
Studio 2005. The new ADO.NET 2.0 provider allows native access to
SQL Anywhere data management technology. Integration features with
Visual Studio 2005 will make it easy for developers to build
data-driven .NET application for frontline environments. Additional

Framework-based applications to access ASE 15.0 databases through
ADO.NET -- Providing a SQL Anywhere Explorer window within Visual
Studio 2005, enabling developers to easily access and integrate
applications with SQL Anywhere database servers -- Supporting the
