Micrex Development Corp. (TSX VENTURE:MIX) announced today that Alberta
Environment has reviewed Micrex's "Project Disclosure and Reclamation and
Conservation Plan" for the Burmis Magnetite Project in South Western Alberta and
has determined that no Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) and no Screening
Report will be required.
Mr. Stan Marshall, President of Micrex, said, "This decision reflects the
extensive work that Micrex has done to date and is an important part of the
progress to application. This confirms that addressing so many key issues prior
to making application for a mining permit was the right course of action."
The Company has taken a proactive approach to the permitting process; engaging
the public and government early and using the consultative process to help guide
the project planning and design. Micrex has spent several years completing
critical studies and consultation in preparation for its Disclosure Document.
The size and scope of the "Project Disclosure and Reclamation and Conservation
Plan" is evidence that even though this is a small project Micrex has made
considerable effort to minimize its impact wherever possible.
Micrex is committed to the public consultation process and the changes that have
been made to the project design and operations reflect Micrex's determination to
be responsive to stakeholder's concerns. In response to stakeholder input Micrex
made many beneficial changes to the project, including eliminating process water
use and the tailings pond, adapting the quarry operation for minimal impact,
developing an operations plan that provided flexibility in operating period to
allow maximum sensitivity to wildlife and a detailed reclamation and
conservation plan. These changes play a valuable role in reducing the project
impact on the environment and the area stakeholders.
The Company has released the "Project Disclosure and Conservation and
Reclamation Plan" on the Burmis Project Website at www.burmisproject.com under
the Latest News Link.
Micrex is awaiting input from several government departments regarding various
aspects of the project and expects this input to be forthcoming shortly.
During this period Micrex will be completing selected tasks in preparation for
submission of the Mining Application.
