LONDON--Discount retailer Aldi recorded a record market share of
3.5% and sales growth of 31.5% in this 12 weeks to May 12, while
among of the four leading supermarkets, only J Sainsbury PLC
(SBRY.LN) increased its market share, according to market research
company Kantar Worldpanel.

-Tesco PLC (TSCO.LN) market share 30.2% (12 weeks to May 13
2012: 30.8%)
-J Sainsbury PLC (SBRY.LN) market share 16.8% (2012: 16.5%)
-Asda market share 17.2% (2012: 17.4%)
-Wm Morrison Supermarkets PLC (MRW.LN) market share 11.6% (2012:
11.9%)
-Aldi's share 3.5% (2012: 2.8%); Lidl's share 3.0% (2012:
2.8%.
-Waitrose market share 4.9% (2011: 4.5%).
-Edward Garner, director at Kantar Worldpanel, said market
polarization continues to pile the pressure on the big four
grocers.
