Deloitte Recognized by City of New York As One Of the Five Best
Employers in New York City for Women NEW YORK, Oct. 27 /PRNewswire/
-- Deloitte was recognized as one of the five best employers for
women in New York City in a survey released recently by the New
York City Commission on Women's Issues. The inaugural "Working for
Women in New York City" survey, conducted by McKinsey & Company
in conjunction with Catalyst, Inc., polled 90 of New York's largest
employers to understand the status of working women in New York and
to identify those companies most strongly committed to women's
issues and needs. The survey measured each organization against a
wide range of criteria, including representation of women overall
and in managerial roles, career development opportunities and
promotion policies, commitment to diversity, and investment in
retention through health and wellness programs, skills training and
work/life flexibility. The five highest-scoring organizations --
American Express, Deloitte, JP Morgan Chase, New York University,
and Time Warner -- were formally honored by Deputy Mayor for Legal
Affairs Carol A. Robles-Roman, Commission Chair Anne Sutherland
Fuchs and President of Barnard College Judith Shapiro at a
celebratory breakfast at Barnard College. Deputy Mayor Robles-Roman
commended the honorees for their outstanding contributions to
making New York the "City of Choice for Women." "Each company
brings a sincere commitment to bettering the lives of women and
their families and this is our way of saying thank you and of
encouraging both the public and private sector to follow suit and
implement family-friendly - can I say female-friendly - programs,"
she said. "You are here because it is the right thing to do. You
are here because you recognize that 53 percent of NYC is female,
and it is both good policy and good business to keep your female
employees happy." Deloitte not only had one of the highest
proportion of women employees among those surveyed -- over 75
percent -- but received especially high marks for its leadership in
work/life quality and effectiveness. The firm was singled out as
the only company to have a full suite of skills training and
succession planning programs specifically for women. Accepting the
honor on Deloitte's behalf, Sue Molina, National Director of the
Women's Initiative, attributed the firm's success in the survey to
its deep investment in women and work/life issues. "At Deloitte,"
she said, "we continue to raise the bar to ensure that all of our
people can be successful." The Commission on Women's Issues is an
advisory body to the Mayor on matters impacting the lives of women
in New York City. The Commission plans to conduct future "Working
for Women in New York City" surveys on a biennial basis. About
