"I wrote the 'Film/TV Director's Film
Manual' to make the 70 maxims available to a much wider
audience."
As a television/film director and film teacher, Spera knows
effective filmmaking and wants to share his wealth of knowledge to
help others in the competitive field. His book, what he refers to
as an "anti-textbook" for filmmakers, identifies 70 powerful
maxims, the fundamental core values of filmmaking. His
comprehensive direction was designed to inspire questions and spark
a thought process that will take filmmaking to the next level.
Spera explains that these central tenets of cinematic storytelling
will result in a far-reaching impact on future films. Readers will
appreciate the series of exercises included in this book that will
help explore the key maxims outlined in the book.
When asked what inspired the author to write this book, Spera
said, "I wrote the 'Film/TV Director's Film Manual' to make the 70
maxims available to a much wider audience. As a television and film
director and film teacher, I have first-hand knowledge of the
maxims' power, and I would like to share these ideas with as many
aspiring and professional filmmakers as possible."
A graduate of the American Film Institute Conservatory,
Rob Spera lives in Los Angeles and offers an extensive background
in film, television, and theatre in addition to 20 years teaching
at the American Film Institute Conservatory. His impressive
