Comedian, TV Star, Conservationist and Veterinarian of 40 years
shares his unusual journey through life
DENVER, Feb. 17,
2025 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Leading a storied life of
rock and roll, comedy gigs, world travel and tv stardom, Dr.
Kevin Fitzgerald has recently
released his memoir "It Started With a Turtle: One Man's Life on a Blue & Green Planet," in
which he brings readers behind the curtain, sharing his eventful
rise from touring with rock and roll superstars to being a featured
veterinarian on Animal Planet's hit show "Emergency Vets."
"It Started with a Turtle" is a compelling, multi-act memoir
that captures Fitzgerald's extraordinary life, featuring a forward
written by award-winning standup comedian, writer, and actor
Dana Gould. His journey from a
chaotic Irish Catholic upbringing to
a globetrotting conservationist and stand-up comedian is both
entertaining and inspiring. Fitzgerald offers readers an array of
experiences that celebrate life, love, and the interconnectedness
of all living things.
"I'm a little like Forest Gump,"
Fitzgerald explained. "A lot of things fell into place because I
was in the right place at the right time. My first pet, a turtle
named Sam, helped me realize my love for animals as a young child
growing up in the 1950s. I carried that love with me through life
and it helped me get where I am today."
Touring with notable bands such as The Rolling Stones and The
Who as security, it was ultimately Keith
Richards who encouraged Fitzgerald to pursue veterinary
medicine. Richard's support was the push Fitzgerald needed to go
back to school in 1978, kickstarting his more than 40 years in
veterinary medicine. 19 years later Fitzgerald received a
life-changing phone call that resulted in Fitzgerald's 11 seasons
on the hit Animal Planet reality show "Emergency Vets," and more
recently, "E-Vet Interns."
This multifaceted memoir dives into Fitzgerald's experience as a
stand-up comedian and his experiences working with industry titans
such as George Lopez, Kathleen Madigan, and Joan Rivers. He also shares his passion for
wildlife conservation, which has taken him to the far corners of
the globe, including Antarctica,
Mongolia, and the Arctic.
Fitzgerald advocates for science-based decision-making and
environmental awareness, emphasizing the interconnectedness of all
living beings.
"There are 10 million other forms of life on the planet,"
Fitzgerald said. "The extinction rate for species is a hundred
times what it was before the appearance of humans and may reach a
thousand times that by 2023. We need to be the voice of the
voiceless. No matter how humble or inconspicuous, each species is a
survivor of evolutionary competition, and a masterpiece in
itself."
