Cirond Announces Enterprise Network Security Solutions to Combat
'WiPhishing' Attacks on Individuals, Corporations and Government
CEO Nicholas Miller Unveils AirSafe Enterprise, AirPatrol
Enterprise Controller, AirPatrol Enterprise Remote Viewer and
AirPatrol Enterprise Central Console at WLAN Event in London
LONDON, April 20 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Cirond Corporation (OTC
Bulletin Board: CROO), a global provider of network security
solutions that protect wired and wireless networks against the
rapidly growing threat arising from the deployment of unauthorized
wireless devices, today formally introduced a powerful suite of
new, enterprise-class network security solutions to fight the
"WiPhishing" network security threat created by the use of
wireless-equipped laptop computers. At the Wireless LAN Event at
the Olympia Conference Centre in London today, Cirond CEO and
President Nicholas Miller - who coined the word "WiPhishing"
(pronounced "why fishing") to describe this fast emerging network
security threat - unveiled Cirond's solutions to fight it. He said
that with more than 100 million wireless-enabled computers in use
today, potentially devastating harm resulting from the WiPhishing
threat is perhaps more significant than any other since the advent
of the Internet. Miller was joined at the press conference by
Professor Philip Nobles, wireless Internet and cyber-crime expert
at Cranfield University in the United Kingdom, who underscored the
seriousness of the threat. Nobles earned global industry attention
earlier this year when he identified the "Evil Twin" vulnerability
of the WiPhishing threat. WiPhishing, which describes a variety of
wireless network security attacks including the Evil Twin attack,
can expose all the shared information on a user's laptop computer -
and potentially even information on traditional wired computer
networks - to wireless "hacking" by criminals that are intent on
theft and malicious damage of corporate information. "The attack I
reported in January was primarily concerned with vulnerabilities of
using public hotspots," said Dr. Nobles. "This threat is also
relevant to home and corporate users who have failed to adequately
secure their networks." In a WiPhishing attack, wireless hackers
can potentially introduce computer viruses, worms or even
"keystroke loggers" onto a "WiPhished" laptop without even being in
the same building as the victim. The laptop may also be in danger
when used at a wireless "hot spot" during a business trip. Wireless
network technology can allow a hacker with a wireless access point
to "attract" wireless-equipped laptops from across the street or
even the parking lot. This can happen even if the organization in
which the laptop is being used doesn't have an official wireless
network. Meanwhile, if the wireless network functions of the laptop
computer are not switched off when it is connected to a traditional
wired network, wireless hackers may be able to connect to that
laptop computer and "hijack" its legitimate connection to the
traditional wired computer network. The suite of network security
solutions announced today are designed to prevent WiPhishing
attacks of all kinds. "This new suite of enterprise-ready, network
security solutions fully rounds out our range of tools to combat
WiPhishing and associated wireless-related network security
threats," said Miller. "We encourage all corporate enterprises and
government agencies to take action today to secure their laptops
and networks against the wireless threat by taking a serious look
at Cirond's powerful and highly effective solutions." Cirond's
suite of new solutions include: * AirSafe Enterprise - Cirond
AirSafe Enterprise provides network administrators with a
comprehensive, enterprise-class, Microsoft Windows-based(TM) tool
to combat the WiPhishing threat. It puts network administrators
back in control of all the wireless-enabled devices in the company
- allowing them to control how, when, where - and if users - can
connect to wireless networks (and limiting the networks to which
they can connect). It enables them to set and enforce wireless
usage policies. Using the unique AirSafe client policy management
control console, network administrators can completely prevent
automatic connection to insecure wireless access points (such as a
Linksys access point that may be across the street from a user's
office, and to which a wireless laptop might connect by default).
The console can also force the use of a VPN client, prevent
connection to a predetermined list of particularly vulnerable
wireless access points (ie. those with common names such as
hotspot, wireless, linksys, default and so on), force the use of
WEP, WPA PSK or WPA - and ensure that users connecting through a
VPN connection do so within a preset time frame. * AirPatrol
Enterprise Controller - AirPatrol Enterprise Controller is a
network security appliance based on standard, rack-mounted server
technology that puts all the power of Cirond's well-established
AirPatrol Enterprise wireless network security and management
technology into a single, easily installable server. It is aimed at
helping enterprises ensure they have dedicated, industry-standard
hardware assigned to the important task of monitoring the
corporation's air space for unauthorized wireless access points and
devices - as well as managing wireless networks as and when they
are deployed. * AirPatrol Enterprise Central Console - AirPatrol
Enterprise Central Console software enables network administrators
to configure and manage multiple AirPatrol Enterprise installations
and locations from one central console. It also allows the user to
connect to and control AirPatrol Enterprise Server Edition (or
AirPatrol Enterprise Controller) installations through Microsoft
Windows Remote Desktop software. In a corporation with multiple
offices in different cities, it is important to be able to remotely
operate complete AirPatrol Enterprise installations at branch
offices from a central console. AirPatrol Enterprise Central
Console provides that capability. * AirPatrol Enterprise Remote
Viewer - AirPatrol Enterprise Remote Viewer is a Window-based
software application that allows any network manager to remotely
view AirPatrol Enterprise Server Edition or AirPatrol Enterprise
Controller Floor Plan screens on any network from which the
software is installed. This solution provides greater security than
the typical Web-based viewers used to access network security
information. Only users with an authenticated and provisioned
AirPatrol Remote Viewer application can view the Floor Plan screen
(which shows all wireless devices and access points detected on a
given floor). All of these solutions are currently in final beta
test with select customers and will become available for general
distribution on May 30, 2005 through Cirond's network of Value
Added Resellers (VARs). In the UK, the company's exclusive
distributor is Network Utilities, which also discussed its plans
for roll-out of the products in the UK at the Wireless LAN Event -

Company directly for details of the nearest VAR or visit the Cirond
Web site at http://www.cirond.com/. Product price lists are
enclosed with the media pack at the WLAN Event launch. About Cirond
