Applied DNA Sciences, Inc. Announces Completion of R&D Program
to Develop DNA-Embedded Holographic Security Product LOS ANGELES,
June 8 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Applied DNA Sciences, Inc.
(OTC:APDN) (BULLETIN BOARD: APDN) announces the completion of a
6-month R&D program to develop a DNA-embedded hologram. The
announcement follows the successful testing of the new DNA-embedded
holographic security product by the Department of Energy's Idaho
National Laboratory. The holograms were developed under an
agreement with Holomex, a leading security hologram supplier, who
provided the latest advancements in holographic technology for this
project. The goal of the program was to design a multi-layered
security product that has both the convenience and speed of optical
readability and the absolute certainty of DNA forensic
authentication. The DOE produced a conclusive report demonstrating
the successful integration of APDN's DNA into a hologram. The most
significant outcome of this testing was the increased speed of DNA
authentication. The improved analytical methods developed by the
DOE under an R&D program with APDN produced positive results 10
times faster than conventional Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR)
methods typically used by commercial laboratories for DNA testing.
These new methods are the result of several advancements involving
various DNA-encrypted products under a Cooperative Research and
Development Agreement (CRADA) that APDN executed with the
Department of Energy. The DNA holograms are the first of several
product configurations planned under the business alliance with
Holomex. APDN and Holomex will target several industry sectors with
the new security labels. The pharmaceutical, beauty product,
automotive and entertainment industries are the primary targets.
Since holograms are already in wide use for security printing, the
addition of DNA for forensic authentication has strong appeal, and
is a natural progression to meet demands for higher security.
Customers already familiar with using holograms will recognize the
cost benefits associated with implementing the DNA feature that
utilizes existing process equipment-making adoption very fast.
Holomex will begin marketing the new DNA holograms to its existing
customers in July 2005. ABOUT APPLIED DNA SCIENCES, INC. Applied
