Optional 10 Gigabit Ethernet Switch Increases Real-Time Client
Access for Broadcast and Post Production Facilities SANTA CLARA,
Calif., June 26 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Foundry Networks(R), Inc.
(NASDAQ:FDRY), a performance and total solutions leader for
end-to-end switching and routing, today announced it is supplying
Avid Technology, Inc., the world leader in digital nonlinear media
creation, management and distribution solutions, with its
FastIron(R) Edge X Series 424 (FESX424) switches to expand the
connectivity for Avid Unity ISIS(TM), Avid's revolutionary shared
storage system. Foundry's FastIron Edge X424 provides wire-speed
Ethernet connectivity for real-time client to the Avid Unity ISIS
system. The Avid Unity ISIS system is engineered with distributed
intelligence to provide real-time performance, 24/7 availability
and reliability, massive scalability to 192 TB of storage, and
support for up to 150 active clients for enterprise-wide
collaboration in broadcast and post production environments. The
core of the Avid Unity ISIS system is the Avid ISIS(TM) Engine -- a
unique 16 blade storage subsystem housed within a single storage
chassis that features intelligent dual-drive storage blades,
integrated Ethernet switching, and redundant power and cooling. The
result is a real-time shared storage solution with no single point
of failure that delivers virtually unlimited storage scalability,
vast client connectivity, and avoids network traffic bottlenecks
inherent in storage systems relying on centralized intelligence.
"The Avid Unity ISIS system was designed to deliver extraordinary
performance to large workgroups that require shared access to
massive amounts of digital media," said Andy Dale, senior product
manager, networking and storage, at Avid. "Foundry's FastIron Edge
X Series switches, with both 10/100/1000 and 10-Gigabit Ethernet
(10-GbE) connectivity, help us further expand workgroup
connectivity and deliver a high level of performance for digital
content creators." "Foundry is very pleased to provide Avid with
the switching solution for scalable high-bandwidth access to their
digital media content management environment," said Bob Schiff,
vice president and general manager, enterprise business unit for
Foundry Networks. "The low-latency and bandwidth of Foundry's
FastIron Edge X Series switches make these products an ideal match
for the high-performance needs of the Avid Unity ISIS media
network." The FastIron Edge X Series family of Layer 2/3 switches
(FES X Series) extends the power and performance of Gigabit
Ethernet and 10-Gigabit Ethernet to the network's edge. The
FastIron Edge X Series switches are 1.5U high compact Gigabit
Ethernet edge switches with options for one or two ports of 10-GbE.
The switches are available in three base configurations: 24-port
10/100/1000 Mbps gigabit over copper configuration, 48-port
10/100/1000 Mbps gigabit over copper configuration and 24-port SFP
fiber configurations. Each model supports four ports that are
implemented as combination copper-SFP ports to provide additional
flexibility. All models are configurable with redundant power
supplies. The FastIron Edge X Series switches feature advanced
Layer 2 services and protocols including IEEE 802.1Q VLANs, Q-in-Q
encapsulation, Metro Ring Protocol (MRP) and Virtual Switch
Redundancy Protocol (VSRP). These advanced Layer 2 features enable
providers to deliver scalable and resilient Ethernet services to
their customers. Additionally, the switches are software
upgradeable to support full Layer 3 routing services, including IP
multicast and BGP-4 routing with scalability to 100,000 BGP routes.
The routing services further extend the range of applications in
which these products can be used. About Avid Technology, Inc. Avid
