November 03 2005 - 6:30AM
Business Wire
Interchange Corp. (Nasdaq:INCX), owners and operators of Local.com,
a local-search engine, today announced the implementation of its
local-search platform on 10 additional Morris Communications
newspaper sites. The additional Morris publications, which include
The Florida Times-Union (http://www.jacksonville.com), Savannah
Morning News (http://www.savannahnow.com), The Hannibal
Courier-Post (http://www.hannibal.net), and The Topeka
Capital-Journal (http://www.cjonline.com), now utilize
Interchange's local-search platform to power their online local
business directories. The Florida Times-Union is Morris
Communications' largest online newspaper. The agreement, made in
conjunction with Morris DigitalWorks, the online division of Morris
Communications, provides these publications with new revenue
channels, enhanced local-search technology, and further extends the
reach of their local advertisers on the newspapers' online
properties. With the addition of these 10 publications, a total of
19 online Morris newspapers are now utilizing Interchange's
local-search platform. "Our ability to expand this relationship is
a testament to the value that our technology platform brings to the
newspaper industry," said Greg Parker, director of strategic
alliances at Interchange. "We believe the adoption of Interchange's
technology platform by Morris Communications' larger newspapers
demonstrates that our local search scales to serve publishers with
substantial traffic and advertiser volumes." Interchange's
local-search platform enhances the search experience for consumers
on newspaper and other directory sites by providing them with
structured, relevant search results using Interchange's Keyword
DNA(TM) technology. Keyword DNA utilizes business characteristics
such as location, service area, and business-specific keywords,
among other data, to automatically create a unique keyword profile
for each local business. This enables newspaper sites to replace
category-based searches and provides for searches of products and
services using one user-friendly search box. Interchange's
local-search platform also provides added revenue opportunities for
Morris Communications and other newspaper publishers by allowing
them to display additional local- and national-sponsored listings
from Interchange's large network of local and national advertisers.
