Hanger Announces Nationwide Implementation Of 3D Laser-Scanning
Technology, Insignia Trade Media Invited to First Industry
Demonstration, To Be Held at AAOS Meeting SAN FRANCISCO, March 4
/PRNewswire/ -- After a successful eight-month installation of over
100 units in select markets nationwide, Hanger Orthopedic Group,
Inc. announced it is accelerating the national implementation of
Insignia, its proprietary 3D laser-scanning technology. An
alternative to traditional plaster casting methods, Insignia
employs a three-dimensional motion-tracking laser scanner and
proprietary CAD software to provide a faster, cleaner, less
invasive image capture experience. "Insignia has enjoyed great
success thus far. Patient feedback is positive and our practitioner
community has embraced the technology for its clinical benefits and
ease of use," Insignia Program Director John Spaeth, CP said. "The
equipment has proven itself to be reliable and accurate, with very
few service issues. Hanger announced the initiative to develop a
proprietary laser scanning system for prosthetic and orthotic
applications in May 2003 (See http://www.hanger.com/ for original
news release, titled "Hanger and Polhemus team to develop 3D
laser-scanning technology for prosthetic and orthotic
applications"). Since that announcement, nearly 130 Hanger
practitioners have been certified to use Insignia. Depending on
market conditions, Hanger plans to triple the number of Insignia
certified practitioners by the end of 2004. According to Spaeth,
the number of Hanger patient care centers benefiting from Insignia
will more than triple due to the system's inherent portability.
Insignia's compact, lightweight casing allows the practitioner to
cast a patient in just about any location nationwide, including
hospitals, nursing homes, rehabilitation centers, and in the
patient's home. The first national demonstration to the healthcare
industry will take place at the American Academy of Orthopaedic
Surgeons (AAOS) 71st Annual Meeting in San Francisco, March 10-14:
