International Dispensing Corporation (IDC) (IDND.PK) and PepsiCo announced today the signing of a multiyear global supply agreement for IDC’s proprietary dispensing tap, The Answer®. The world’s only certified aseptic tap, The Answer® prevents microorganisms from compromising product safety even during prolonged unrefrigerated use, a key technological “unlock” to solving this long-standing challenge.

Under the agreement, PepsiCo will buy The Answer® taps for use in a wide variety of PepsiCo non-carbonated ready-to-drink beverages as well as syrups and concentrates. The agreement between IDC and PepsiCo will maximize exposure of the multi-serve aseptic package, and it is expected to result in a number of product launches in regions around the world starting in early 2012. Following the IDC-PepsiCo 2010 “Letter of Intent” agreement, the companies have been working together to develop and commercialize The Answer® as a unique selling proposition and core PepsiCo branding opportunity. The companies see significant growth potential for such a package in both emerging and mature markets, in both foodservice and retail channels.

The Answer® will continue to be Made in the USA; IDC’s manufacturing partner, Hoffer Plastics will produce the taps in South Elgin, IL and ship them internationally as required by PepsiCo.

“We are pleased to be working with PepsiCo on a global basis to commercialize a multi-serve aseptic package with The Answer®, with all its economic, nutritional, and environmental benefits,” said Greg Abbott, founder, chairman and CEO of IDC. “PepsiCo is an ideal partner for IDC: a global company with a diverse portfolio of well-established beverage brands, the vision to embrace game-changing technology, and the drive to execute on its vision. IDC believes PepsiCo has the ability to make The Answer®, and the bulk aseptic package it enables, a mainstream format in regions all around the world.”

About The Answer®

The Answer® tap is the world’s only certified aseptic dispensing device. Attached to a flexible bag or pouch, it allows for the safe dispensing of aseptic liquids over an extended period of time without recourse to refrigeration or preservatives by providing a constant barrier against contaminants. The Answer® has been extensively tested and validated by FDA process authorities, most recently by the IEH Laboratories and Consulting Group, whose research findings were published in the peer-reviewed Journal of Food Protection (March 2008). A Life-Cycle Analysis conducted by Allied Development (2009) has demonstrated that a multiuse aseptic flexible package with The Answer® represents a significantly smaller carbon footprint than that of aseptic cartons, plastic bottles, and milk jugs, giving credence to the argument that the package may be among the greenest beverage packages in existence today. The Answer® was designed to bring the benefits of aseptic processing to a large-format flexible package and is intended for use by foodservice outlets, warehouse and other retail stores, the military, and disaster relief agencies, where safe and convenient storage and dispensing without refrigeration represents a groundbreaking advantage. The Answer® is especially useful in developing countries lacking refrigeration, though every country can benefit. It can be safely utilized with both low-acid and high-acid liquids, including juices, teas, sports drinks, coconut water, soy milk, and dairy and dairy-based beverages.
