                               THE ASAHI BANK, LTD. 
                 INTENTION TO DELIST FROM THE LONDON STOCK EXCHANGE

On October 26, 2001, The Asahi Bank, Ltd. (the "Bank") announced its intention 
to delist its common stock from the London Stock Exchange and SWX Swiss Stock 
Exchange prior to the proposed management consolidation with The Daiwa Bank, 
Limited, The Kinki Osaka Bank, Limited and The Nara Bank, Limited (the "Daiwa 
Bank Group"). The management consolidation between the Bank and the Daiwa Bank 
Group will be achieved by way of a share exchange ("kabushiki koukan" under the 
Japanese Commercial Code) between the Bank and Daiwa Bank Holdings, Inc. 
("DBH"), a new holding company which will be established by the Daiwa Bank 
Group, in which all of the shares of the Bank will be exchanged for shares to be
issued by DBH subject to the relevant resolutions and approvals. As a result, 
the Bank will be a 100% subsidiary of DBH and common shares of the Bank shall be
delisted under the rules of each stock exchange on which the Bank's shares are 
now listed.

Thus, the Bank is now applying for delisting from the London Stock Exchange.

The Bank also intends to delist its common shares from the Tokyo Stock Exchange 
and Osaka Securities Exchange, which will be officially announced later.
