AHF: HIV Documentary ‘Wilhemina’s War’ to Screen at Pan African Film Festival, Feb 12th & Feb. 14th

Friday, Feb 12th Red Carpet Gala to include
film’s Wilhemina; her granddaughter, Dayshal, who has been living
with HIV since birth; R&B singer Monica and crossover artist
B.Slade, among others. AHF Grant Fund recipient, June Cross,
directed film that sheds light on HIV stigma and medical care in
rural communities in the American South.
As part of Black History Month, AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF)
is proud to support the Pan African Film Festival’s screening in
Los Angeles of the groundbreaking HIV/AIDS documentary film
‘Wilhemina’s War’ on Friday, February 12th at
the Rave Cinemas, Baldwin Hills Crenshaw Plaza (4020 Marlton
Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90008). A Red Carpet Gala arrival featuring
the film’s Wilhemina; her granddaughter, Dayshal, who
has been living with HIV since birth; R&B singer Monica;
Gospel and crossover artist B.Slade and June Cross,
the documentary’s director, among others, will take place from
7:15 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The film will screen from 8:00
p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
The film, which was produced and directed by AHF Grant Fund
recipient June Cross, follows a Southern grandmother’s
struggles to help her loved ones through the scourge of HIV in a
state hostile to public health care. The February
12th screening & gala is SOLD OUT. However, a
second screening will take place on Sunday, February 14th at 4:00
p.m. at the RAVE Cinemas, Baldwin Hills Crenshaw Plaza. Tickets for
the February 14th screening can be purchased in advance via Holman
United Methodist Church (323.731.7285) starting at $15. Seating is
limited.

truly sheds light on the ongoing struggles we face in combating HIV
stigma and the lingering barriers that prevent people living with
HIV/AIDS from accessing care and treatment,” said Cynthia
Davis, MPH, Assistant Professor, College of Medicine, Charles
R. Drew University of Medicine and Science and Chair of AHF’s Board
of Directors. “We are so proud that AHF was able to support the
filmmaker June Cross through the AHF Grant Fund and know that we
will continue to see great things from her.”
