The cumulative average return on the collective stands at a positive 0.311 percent, bolstered by the Nikkei's return to trade with a 2.73 percent advance in its overnight session. The Hong Kong Hang Seng Index, France CAC 40 and the Frankfurt DAX have all hit fresh 52-week highs in early trade (HKIND hit a yearly closing high as well). The Consumer Sentiment Index in France in October came in at minus 29. The reading came in below both the minus 27 in September and consensus expectation for a minus 26 and snapped a string of five consecutive monthly improvements. The two weekly reports on the health of the retail sector highlight the economic calendar today. In the prior week, BTM-UBS Chain store sales declined by 0.9 percent while the Redbook Retail Sales Index climbed by 1.1 percent. The earnings calendar is sufficient, but I do not expect any market moving reports out of today's candidates.
