Genesys Conferencing (Euronext Eurolist:FR0004270270)
(NASDAQ:GNSY), a global multimedia conferencing leader, has
developed a proprietary VoIP softphone that is fully integrated
with the company's flagship multimedia conferencing service,
Genesys Meeting Center. The Genesys VoIP Softphone offers a
cost-effective alternative to the traditional telephone, using
Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) and their PCs to connect
moderators and participants to the audio portion of a Genesys
Meeting Center virtual meeting. VoIP is a technology that transmits
voice over an IP network. It allows users to have an audio
conversation via the Internet instead of the Public Switched
Telephone Network (PSTN) used with traditional telephones. Its key
benefit is cost efficiency, as it allows a user to avoid
traditional telephone charges. These savings are especially
dramatic when VoIP is being used for long-distance or international
calls or to avoid hotel telephone charges. A softphone is an
application that enables the user's PC to function as a phone,
using VoIP technology. A softphone includes an on-screen interface
that allows users to place and manage their calls. "Genesys Meeting
Center is fully positioned as the conferencing and collaboration
platform of choice for the large enterprise customer," said Genesys
EVP of Global Marketing Denise Persson. "Our VoIP softphone adds to
the flexibility of Genesys Meeting Center, whose scalability,
reliability and ease of use make it ideally suited for the
large-enterprise conferencing environment." She stressed that the
development of Genesys VoIP conferencing services is based on
working with customers to best meet individual needs. "The Genesys
VoIP Softphone has been designed so that it is not in conflict with
any existing VoIP solution that an enterprise may have already
deployed or is considering deploying." This is significant because
IP telephony is widely regarded as an area of focus and increased
investment on the part of corporate Information technology
managers. Genesys VoIP Softphone Customer Benefits An added
advantage of the Genesys VoIP Softphone is its low bandwidth
requirement, a key benefit in large enterprises with network
capacity concerns. The Genesys VoIP Softphone uses an economical
10-kbps data stream. "The Genesys VoIP softphone offers all of the
advantages of Voice over IP but with none of the disadvantages,"
said Persson. "It is especially beneficial to travelling and remote
employees, as they can connect to online meetings easily and
affordably from home, a hotel, a WiFi hotspot or any other facility
via the public Internet." "With the simplicity and efficiency of
its new softphone, Genesys Conferencing provides yet another reason
for enterprises to consider a conferencing service provider," said
Frost & Sullivan's Roopam Jain, Principal Analyst for
conferencing and collaboration. "In addition, the softphone's low
bandwidth requirements make it especially well-suited for a large
enterprise." She added that the growth potential of use of Voice
over IP for web conferencing is significant. "Conferencing has the
potential to be the killer app for Voice over IP." Persson added
that the Genesys VoIP Softphone is also both secure and
firewall-friendly. "These features have been well received by our
customers -- they want a conferencing solution that can be easily
accessed by everyone, both internally and externally, but without
compromising security." The Genesys VoIP Softphone can utilize HTTP
over port 80, the default port for most Internet traffic, and
easily bypass customer firewalls. Its security is assured with a
proprietary compression method and file format and uses the 128-bit
Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) on all voice streams. Additional
