IXYS Corporation (NASDAQ:SYXI) announced today the introduction of a new generation of ultra fast rectifiers. The new generation is called HiPerFRED2(TM), which is an addition to IXYS' successful HiPerFET(TM) and HiPerFRED family of rugged high performance MOSFETs and Fast Recovery Rectifiers. This latest generation of rectifiers provides a new benchmark for efficiency in power management by reducing the energy loss and thus lowering the overall operating temperature, which is particularly critical in plasma displays. The new HiPerFRED2(TM) technology has been developed as 'application-optimized' design, allowing designers to use the most suitable diode for their circuits with improved reverse recovery switching characteristics and thermal behavior allowing higher integration and compact designs, space-saving constructions and a higher system efficiency. In addition, this family incorporates a new passivation technology that dramatically reduces the leakage current under high voltage blocking conditions thereby lowering standby temperatures and improving system reliability. The voltages classes ranges from 200V up to 400V. Two design variants give designers the choice to optimize applications from decoupling diodes, snubber circuits, freewheeling diodes to Switch Mode Power Supplies (SMPS). Design 'F' offers an extremely low forward voltage drop (VF) that supports circuits where the on-state losses are dominating. 'G'-Types are developed for high switching frequencies. Both designs offer a leakage current well below 1uA that reduces the off-state losses to a minimum - a big benefit in temperature sensitive circuits such as those found in automotive designs or Plasma Display Panels (PDP). This high performance supports design engineers to realize high integrated circuits with high stability and reliability. The HiPerFRED2(TM) with part number nomenclature starting with DPG10 (10 amps) to DPG120 (120 amps) are available in several standard packages - surface mount and leaded such as: TO3P, TO247, TO220FP and D2Pac. They are also available in our industry recognized ISOPLUS(TM) DCB isolated packages. Typical popular part numbers for PDP include: DPG60C300QB - a 300 volt, 2x30 Amps in common cathode configuration in TO3P Package. Other parts popular for DC-DC converters are: DPG20C200PN - a 200 volt, 2x10 Amps in common cathode configuration with a Vf of 1.0 Volts.
