American Water to have strong presence at
meeting with several presenters
American Water (NYSE: AWK), the nation’s largest publicly traded
water and wastewater utility company, announced today the company
will play an active role in the upcoming American Water Works
Association (AWWA) New Jersey Section’s Annual Conference,
which will be held March 17-20 in Atlantic City,
NJ.
American Water will have a strong presence at the conference
with several presenters. These include the following:
- Dr. Mark LeChevallier, director of
Innovation and Environmental Stewardship, will discuss the
“Development of a Risk Management Strategy for Legionella.”
American Water was awarded a research grant from the WateReuse
Research Foundation to develop risk management strategies for
Legionella in reclaimed water systems. The project utilizes
"conventional, culture-based, and state of the art molecular
procedures" to better understand reclaimed water quality and
establish its relationship with Legionella occurrence and
inactivation.
- Dr. Orren Schneider, Water Technology
Manager, will present the solar-powered ultrasonic algae control
buoys manufactured by LG Sound, which were installed in Reservoir
No. 1 at the Canoe Brook Water Treatment
Plant in Short Hills, N.J. These buoys transmit
ultrasonic waves continuously to disrupt algal cells, causing them
to sink and preventing proliferation. This was the first
installation of this relatively new technology for drinking water
reservoirs in North America.
- Russell Titus, operations
superintendent for New Jersey American Water, will present “Taking
Pressure Off Your Non Revenue Water Losses.” Titus will discuss a
project that looks at the potential for reducing non-revenue water
(water that leaves the treatment plant, but is lost somewhere along
the way to the customer), improving customer satisfaction and
decreasing main breaks by modulating pressure during periods of low
demand.
- Adam Kane, P.E., project management
engineer for New Jersey American Water, will present “New Jersey
American Water Successfully Crosses the Garden State Parkway,
Jumping Brook and Earle Rail.” Kane will describe a major
infrastructure project that involved installing more than three
miles of 30-inch and 12-inch diameter water main.
- Vince Monaco, engineering manager of
regional asset planning, and Frank Marascia, manager of production,
both for New Jersey American Water will be leading sessions in a
new conference feature designed for university students. Monaco
will discuss the state’s water supply issues, and Marascia will
present a case study on water treatment.
As part of the American Water Works Association, the New Jersey
Section joins over 54,000 water professionals and vendors in a
dynamic organization with a nationwide interest in protecting and
