The following table lists unplanned and planned production
outages at U.S. refineries as reported by Dow Jones Newswires. The
information is compiled from both official and unofficial refining
sources and doesn't purport to be a comprehensive list.
Monroe Energy is restarting the fluid catalytic cracking unit,
or FCCU, at its refinery in Trainer, Penn., a person familiar with
the refinery's operations said Feb. 11. The FCCU was taken down for
unplanned maintenance in December.
Alon USA (ALJ) said in a government filing Feb. 11 that the
fluid catalytic cracking unit at the 67,000-barrel-a-day refinery
"is currently running at minimum charge" during a wider maintenance
turnaround. The company will also bring the CO boiler down for up
to six days of repair work, the filing said. Alon USA Partners LP
(ALDW) on Jan. 29 said 10 days of planned maintenance at its Big
Spring, Texas, vacuum tower will start this month.
Tesoro Corp. (TSO) said Feb. 8 it restarted an unspecified
"major unit" at its refinery in Martinez, Calif., according to a
government filing. A company spokeswoman declined to name which
unit was restarted.
Philadelphia Energy Solutions shut down the CDU,
hydrodesulfurization and low-sulfur gasoline units at its
Philadelphia refinery during the week ended Feb. 8, the company
said in a government filing. Philadelphia Energy Solutions said in
a Feb. 4 filing to local environmental regulators that a reformer
unit at the Girard Point section of its 330,000-barrel-a-day
Philadelphia refinery was shut Jan. 18 for maintenance.
Tesoro Corp. (TSO) said Feb. 6 it was taking down the FCCU at
its refinery in Anacortes, Wash., in the first quarter as it
expands the refinery's capacity for Bakken crude oil to 50,000
barrels a day. The work would carry into the second quarter, a
company executive said.
Valero Energy Corp. (VLO) said Feb. 7 that a 12,000-barrel-a-day
hydrocracker unit at its refinery in Corpus Christi, Texas, had
been restarted following a brief power outage the day before.
Phillips 66 (PSX) had an unspecified unit outage Feb. 6 at its
80,000-barrel-a-day refinery in Rodeo, Calif., according to a
government filing made public Feb. 5. A company spokesman wasn't
immediately available.
Tesoro restarted what it described as "a major refining unit"
Feb. 4 at its 97,000-barrel-a-day refinery in Wilmington, Calif.,
according to a government filing made public Feb. 5.
Husky Energy (HSE.T) completed construction of a hydrotreater
and aromatics unit at its 160,000-barrel-a-day refinery in Lima,
Ohio, a company spokesperson said Feb. 5. The work had been started
in 2012.
Valero Energy on Feb. 3 took down the gasoline-producing FCCU
and the alkylation unit at its 135,000-barrel-a-day refinery in
Wilmington, Calif., for two weeks of work, a company spokesman
said. Valero had restarted the units in mid-January after an
earlier round of repairs.
Phillips 66 continues to perform maintenance at its
247,000-barrel-a-day refinery in Sweeny, Texas, a company spokesman
said Feb. 2.
Houston Refining LP (LYB) on Feb. 1 said it is in the early
stages of starting a period of planned turnaround maintenance at
one of the crude-oil units and at a coker unit at its Houston
refinery. Crude-oil throughput will be reduced by about 80,000
barrels a day during the maintenance period. The work is expected
to be completed during the first quarter.
Valero Energy on Jan. 29 said five weeks of planned turnaround
maintenance will start in April at a crude-oil unit at its
170,000-barrel-a-day McKee Refinery in Sunray, Texas. The company
has also scheduled the plant-wide shutdown of its
100,000-barrel-a-day Jean Gaulin Refinery in Quebec, Canada, for
nine weeks of turnaround work starting in April.
Hess Corp. (HES) on Jan. 28 said it will close its
70,000-barrel-a-day FCCU facility in Port Reading, N.J., by the end
of February and sell all terminal operations along the East Coast
and in the Caribbean to focus on exploration-and-production
activity.
