Portugal's economy benefitted from a strong tourist season in
the second half of 2016, which helped boost job creation and wages
and strengthened the outlook for the country's economy, according
to new forecasts by the European Commission Monday.
The EU's executive arm forecasts Portugal's economy will expand
by 1.6% in 2017 before slowing to 1.5% in 2018.
Portugal's economy grew 1.3% in 2016 as it recovers from the
shocks of the eurzone debt crisis. But the Commission's report said
"the risks to the forecast are tilted to the downside, as unsolved
problems in the banking sector could dampen the expected recovery
in investment" in Portugal.
