MONTREAL, April 26, 2017 /CNW Telbec/ - SNC-Lavalin
(TSX: SNC) is pleased to announce that it has won three awards from
the Association of Consulting Engineering Companies – British Columbia (ACEC-BC). The accolades were
presented at its Annual Awards for Engineering Excellence Gala.
SNC-Lavalin received Awards of Excellence for its Jimmie Creek
Hydroelectric Project in the Energy & Industry category and BC
Hydro Rock Bay Remediation Project in the Natural Resource &
Habitat category. In addition, its Evergreen Line Rapid
Transit Project garnered an Award of Merit in the Transportation
& Bridges category.
The Awards for Engineering Excellence enable member firms to
showcase the value of their services to clients, as they celebrate
technical excellence and recognize innovation in engineering that
is simply a cut above the rest.
We are delighted to have three of our projects, that showcase
our diverse portfolio of work in British
Columbia, recognized for engineering excellence," said
Neil Bruce, President and Chief
Executive Officer, SNC-Lavalin. These awards are testament to the
fact that we are fortunate to have the best and brightest in the
Power and Infrastructure industries working for us."
Jimmie Creek Hydroelectric Project
This is the second time SNC-Lavalin's work on the Jimmie Creek
Hydroelectric Project has been recognized for excellence in
engineering; the project also won the Clean Energy BC's Project
Excellence award at its annual Generate 2016 conference in
Vancouver last year.
The project produces up to 159,000 MwH of clean, renewable
energy to the grid annually and provides power to approximately
14,500 homes in the area. During project execution, SNC-Lavalin
prioritized the local community by creating numerous key contract
opportunities that were awarded to Klahoose First Nation
companies.
BC Hydro Rock Bay Remediation Project
BC Hydro inherited a contaminated site when BC Electric became
part of BC Hydro in the 1960s. They engaged SNC-Lavalin in 2003 to
develop and execute a remediation strategy to cost effectively
reduce liability, comply with BC regulations and obtain remediation
Certification of Compliance (CofC).
SNC-Lavalin oversaw the remediation of over 300,000 tonnes of
contaminated material on the site and surrounding properties
between 2004 and 2015. BC Hydro has now received seven BC CofCs,
achieving its remedial objective – with nine more pending
regulatory review. This has led to reclamation of this Brownfield
site, stabilization of heritage buildings, future property
divestment, and overall neighbourhood improvement.
Evergreen Line Rapid Transit Project
The Evergreen Line offers reliable and safe transportation for
thousands of people daily in Metro Vancouver and has improved the
movement of people, increased transit choices, and provided better
connections between Coquitlam,
Port Moody, and Burnaby.
The Evergreen Line, an 11km extension to Metro Vancouver's
SkyTrain system, is an integral part of BC's Provincial Transit
Plan and broader regional planning objectives to connect regional
centres with rapid transit to achieve sustainable growth. The
Evergreen Line Project was previously recognized by ACEC-BC and
TransLink as part of the Deputy Minister's Consultant
Awards.
