Carrefour SA (CA.FR) said Friday that it has joined forces with
Google to create an online voice assistant as the French company
tries to gain a foothold in the e-commerce market.
The retailer said the assistant, called Lea, can be used online,
via the company's Drive and Ooshop applications and with online
organic store Greenweez.
In January, Carrefour said it would reorganize its business, and
it has entered new partnerships to strengthen its e-commerce
operation amid challenges from digital competitors.
As part of its digital plan, Carrefour said it aims to become a
key player in food e-commerce, and has targeted a market share of
at least 20% in France by 2022 with sales of 5 billion euros ($6.2
billion).
