Mercedes-Benz AG said Thursday that it has met its 2030 goal for carbon-dioxide emissions from production, and is now targeting a bigger cut.

The German car maker said it has cut emissions by 50% compared with 2018 levels--which was its goal for 2030--in its own plants and with purchased energy sources.

The company said it has increased its goal to reduce CO2 emissions by 80% compared with the 2018 baseline, by 2030, with 70% of energy needs at its production sites coming from renewable sources.

Mercedes-Benz said that currently, 45% of energy used in production comes from renewable sources.
