Anglo American said the High Court of South Africa has ruled that a class action lawsuit against the miner related to lead pollution in Kabwe, Zambia, shouldn't go ahead.

In its judgment, the court recognized the multiple legal and factual flaws in the claim and deemed that it isn't in the interests of justice for the class action to proceed, the miner said Monday.

"We welcome the clarity and force of the court's decision to dismiss this claim as untenable," Legal and Corporate Affairs Director Richard Price said.

The class action case was against the mining major's South African subsidiary Anglo American South Africa and brought on behalf of 140,000 Zambian children and women for alleged lead pollution.
