CANBERRA, Australia,
June 22, 2015 /PRNewswire/ --
Gartner, the world's leading information technology research
company, has named Seeing Machines, (AIM: SEE), the AIM-listed
company with a focus on operator monitoring and intervention
sensing technologies and services, in its exclusive May 5, 2015 "Cool Vendor in Automotive
Electronics" report by James F.
Hines and Werner Goertz.
The Cool Vendors profiled in the report "have developed
innovative technology in the areas of human-machine interface,
embedded vision processing and laser-based sensing for automotive
applications." Seeing Machines' proven computer-vision technology
that tracks driver eye and facial movement is currently used in the
mining and fleet industries. The Company is working in partnership
with Boeing, Electo Motive Diesel and Takata to expand into
aerospace and rail and is also expected to deploy into passenger
cars as early as 2016.
In the report, Gartner wrote: "By monitoring a driver's gaze,
the potential impact of fatigue, lack of focus on traffic or severe
health events become detectable in real time, triggering: an alert
to the driver and dispatch/monitoring staff; an automated response
by the vehicle electronics (come to safe stop or flashing lights,
for example); an automatic alert to emergency services in a case of
a life-threatening health event; and drive event recordings for
later forensic analysis." The report continued, "In addition to
driver safety, the automobile HMI is an important growth area for
hands-free UIs: legacy controls, such as lights, wipers and
windows, and the introduction of infotainment, mobile
communications and navigation require a richer set of instructions
and commands."
Ken Kroeger, CEO of Seeing
Machines, added "Seeing Machines' inclusion in this report is great
third party recognition of our technology. Distracted and fatigued
driving in the mining and fleet sectors is a hazard faced by many
professionals with implications to the general public. However,
it's not just a problem in those industries. Our R&D teams are
hard at work understanding how to best deploy this lifesaving
technology in a number of different industries. We are looking to
continue to innovate and create technologies that make life safer
and more productive."
