SYDNEY--BHP Group Ltd. (BHP.AU) said it has approved to spend
US$44 million on restarting one concentrator at the Samarco
iron-ore operations it jointly owns with Vale SA (VALE).
BHP said the sum will cover its share of funding for the
construction of a filtration plant over the next 12 months and "the
commencement of operation readiness activities for restart."
Samarco's operations have been suspended since a deadly tailings
dam disaster in November, 2015.
