MLB Launching Blockchain
Collectables
The Major League Baseball
organization will be utilizing blockchain to expand its fanbase.
They announced Friday that it has partnered with Lucid
Sight, a blockchain startup based in Los Angeles. The company
is developing a game to allow baseball fans to interact with their
favorite moments in baseball. The dApp game is being build on the
on the ethereum network, is planned to launch later this summer.
The game, called MLB Crypto Baseball, will function similarly
to CryptoKitties. According to MLB executive vice
president of gaming and new business ventures Kenny Gersh, the way
that cat breeding game attracted a new market of users directly
influenced the MLB’s new game launch. In order to play, users must
purchase ETH and transfer it to MetaMask, which of the most
popular and easy to use ethereum browser wallets.
Tether Appoints New
CCO
Leonardo Real will head up Tether’s
push to clean up their reputation. The USD-pegged cryptocurrency
has consistently taken flack for uncertain business practices and
even being accused of directly inflating the price of
Bitcoin. Leonardo Real was the AML Quality Control Manager at
the Bank of Montreal, but has officially accepted the position with
Tether as Chief Compliance Officer (CCO). He is self-proclaimed
longtime advocate of blockchain technology, and hopes to bring his
passion for the industry to help Tether showcase a commitment to
transparency and regulatory compliance. In August of 2016 Real
organized a cryptocurrency, blockchain, and anti-money-laundering
workshop in Toronto. The conference addressed the role of bankers,
company regulators, and law enforcement agencies in the blockchain
industry.
